According to Re:Science, every week is National Science Week!

We were invited by Re:Science to bring our Molecular Smorgasbord to the people of Castlemaine (VIC). As part of their Living Science event, we set up a stall in the local farmers market, and for one day, offered up recipes for molecules and a range of ‘atomic’ ingredients (made of coloured plasticine). Participants chose a molecule from our menu (categories include ‘Airy Atmosphere, ‘Addictive Arrangements’ and ‘Sweet & Sour’), gathered the necessary ingredients and then sat down to build their chemical structure. Wooden toothpicks were used as the bond between atoms.

Explosive TNT was probably one of the most popular recipes that day…closely followed by stimulating caffeine (a parental favourite) and sweet, sweet sucrose (sugar!!).
